Srinagar, Apr 29 (KNO): While the wet spell continued for the third straight day, all the major roads and highways have been thrown closed for vehicular movement in Jammu & Kashmir, bringing the normal life to standstill in the Union Territory yet again.
According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the intermittent heavy rainfall led to the closure of all the major roads and highways across Jammu & Kashmir, leaving hundreds of commuters stranded along the routes in different areas.
Officials told KNO that the Srinagar-Jammu highway has remained blocked due to landslides, mudslides, shooting stones at many places after the heavy rainfall along the route.
People are advised to avoid journey on the National Highway till the weather improves and road is clear, the officials said, adding that the Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri (SSG) road is still blocked due to snow accumulation.
About Mughal Road, the officials said that route is also blocked due to snow accumulation while Bhaderwah-Chamba road has also been closed for the traffic movement due to snow accumulation.
In its advisory, the officials in the Traffic department said, the people are advised to undertake journey only after confirming the status of the road from Traffic control units.
As per the details collected by KNO Correspondent, the hundreds of commuters remained stranded on different major roads and highways after the routes were closed for vehicular movement as a precautionary measure. “The stranded commuters have been stopped at the safer places and will be allowed to ply only after the weather conditions improve and the road is closed,” the officials said.
Meanwhile, the commuters in Srinagar and other areas had to face tremendous hardships today as the roads remained submerged with the muddy water amidst the intermittent moderate rainfall across Kashmir.
The lanes and bi-lanes in Srinagar and elsewhere remained submerged, giving tough times to the commuters to commute.
